Diesel Calibration · Level 1 Fundamental

Diesel Fundamental.
From combustion physics to Stage 1.

14 chapters. Driver wish, torque limiter, FMTC, SOI, rail pressure, VNT, MAF — explained from physics up, so you understand why your calibration works. Not just which cell to change. One methodology, any diesel ECU.

Curriculum

14 chapters. Torque, fuel, air — in the order they affect combustion.

Every chapter ends with the lesson you won’t find elsewhere: how to find the map in any firmware, without DAMOS.

Ch 00
Intro

Before you touch the ECU

Why most tuners flash files they don’t understand. The mental model that separates calibrators from “file flashers”.

Ch 01
Torque

Driver’s wish

The pedal-to-torque map that decides everything downstream. How the ECU translates your right foot into a torque request.

Ch 02
Torque

Torque limiter

The single map that capped your last Stage 1. Where the ECU caps requested torque — and why most tuners raise this map blindly.

Ch 03
Fuel

FMTC / TQ-IQ

The torque-to-injection-quantity conversion. The hidden math that converts your torque request into milligrams of diesel per stroke.

Ch 04
Fuel

Injection duration

How injection pulse width is calculated from quantity, rail pressure, and injector flow characteristics. The bridge between math and physical fuel delivery.

Ch 05
Fuel

Rail pressure

How high the rail goes, when it goes, and why pushing it higher without rethinking SOI and pre-injection makes your engine louder, not faster.

Ch 06
Fuel

Start of injection — SOI

The timing map that decides whether you get torque or noise. Most calibrators ignore SOI entirely — and leave 5-8% power on the table.

Ch 07
Fuel

Pre-injection

The small fuel pulse before the main injection. Wrong pre-injection = NVH problems, EGT spikes, DPF clogging. Right pre-injection = smooth power.

Ch 08
Air

Turbo pressure

Boost target maps, boost limiter, overboost detection. How the ECU asks for boost — and what it does when reality disagrees.

Ch 09
Air

Variable Nozzle Turbine — VNT

The geometry actuator that decides turbo response. The map most tuners never touch — even though it controls how fast your boost arrives.

Ch 10
Air

Mass Air Flow — MAF

The smoke limiter you can’t ignore. MAF vs requested fuel determines whether the ECU lets your power through or cuts it for emissions protection.

Ch 11
Theory

Physical processes

AFR, back pressure, SOI graphs, VNT curves. The combustion physics that ties every map together. Understand this, and the rest stops being a guessing game.

Ch 12
Practice

Practical section

Apply the framework to real firmware. Walk through a complete Stage 1 case — torque request → fuel → air → validation — on a real ECU file.

Ch 13
Cert

Certification prep

Final review and certification exam. Pass and your name appears on certifiedtuners.com — the public registry clients use to verify real calibrators.

The differentiator

Find any map. In any firmware. Without DAMOS.

Every chapter ends with the one lesson nobody else teaches: how to locate the map you need in firmware that has no documentation. No DAMOS file. No A2L. No XDF. Most calibrators stop when the documentation runs out — that’s where this course starts working.

What’s included

Everything to build your first Stage 1.

  • 14 chapters of structured diesel calibration theory — torque, fuel, air, in the order they affect combustion.
  • How to find maps in any firmware — without DAMOS files. The methodology that works when documentation runs out.
  • Combustion physics — AFR, back pressure, SOI graphs, VNT curves. The “why” behind every map you’ll touch.
  • Practical section with real ECU firmware files. Walk through a complete Stage 1 case end-to-end.
  • Certificate on completion — verified on certifiedtuners.com, the public registry clients use to find real calibrators.
  • Lifetime access to all course updates. When firmware changes, your course updates with it.
  • Monthly Q&A with Thomas — bring your own ECU questions to a working diesel engineer.

From Diesel Fundamental graduates

★★★★★

By the end of the course I had solid confidence — I can independently do Stage 1, disable ecology components, or remove errors. The methodology works on every diesel ECU I’ve touched since.

★★★★★

My calibration knowledge was foggy — I blindly relied on others copying solutions. The course gave me a solid, confident foundation: Winols skills, map building, the math behind every change. Now I understand the process and don’t depend on other calibrators anymore.

Common questions

Before you enroll

What prerequisites do I need?

Safe ECU read/write on real vehicles. You should already use Kess, KTAG, PCMFlash, or similar without bricking units. No prior Winols experience required — the course teaches it from scratch. The methodology starts with the engine — not the code.

Do I need DAMOS files to follow the course?

No. Every chapter includes one lesson on finding the map in any firmware — without a DAMOS file. The methodology works with incompatible or missing documentation. This is the core differentiator from every other course on the market.

How long does it take?

About 1 month at ~1 hour per day across 14 chapters. Self-paced with lifetime access — most students see their first paid result before they finish. There is no enrollment deadline or cohort schedule.

Does this cover trucks and heavy equipment?

Yes. The methodology works with any diesel ECU — MAN, Scania, Cummins, KAMAZ, JCB, Fendt, John Deere. You learn the physics and the approach, not a preset list of cars. Letters, then any book.

Is it worth €970 when I can learn from YouTube?

“I considered courses like this for 3 years, looking for easier paths — they don’t exist.” YouTube gives scattered tricks. This course teaches the engineering workflow — how every map connects to combustion physics. What takes 3+ years to assemble on your own, you learn here in 1 month. Most students earn back the €970 on their first 3-7 paid calibrations.
